About Nature Based Therapy

Nature-based therapy combines traditional counselling approaches with the calming and restorative effects of the outdoors. Sessions take place in natural settings and may include walk-and-talk therapy, mindfulness, grounding practices, reflective conversation, and gentle movement-based experiences.

For many people, being outside can help therapy feel more relaxed, open, and less clinical while also supporting nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, and stress reduction.

Nature-based therapy can be helpful for individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, or feeling disconnected from themselves. The outdoor setting often creates opportunities to slow down, feel more present, and reconnect with both yourself and your environment.

My approach integrates evidence-based therapy approaches such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and somatic awareness within a supportive outdoor setting tailored to your comfort level and goals.

Our work together unfolds at a pace that feels right for you. In-person couples counselling available in St. John's Newfoundland, along with gentle between-session support and resources to help you stay connected to the work outside of therapy.

How It Works

An experiential, outdoor approach to individual therapy in Newfoundland

The Initial Consultation

Our first conversation provides an opportunity to explore what is bringing you to therapy and what you hope will be different. We'll discuss your goals, current challenges, and the role nature-based or adventure therapy may play in your treatment. Together, we'll determine whether this approach is a good fit and how best to support you moving forward.

Ongoing Sessions

All clients begin with indoor sessions to establish safety, build rapport, and develop a thoughtful treatment plan. If nature-based or adventure therapy aligns with your goals and circumstances, sessions may transition outdoors when clinically appropriate. This flexible approach allows us to draw from both traditional counselling and experiential practices to support growth, resilience, self-awareness, and meaningful change.

Experiential Integration

Nature-based therapy extends beyond simply meeting outdoors. You'll receive practical tools, opportunities for reflection, and experiential exercises designed to help you connect with your strengths and apply what you're learning in everyday life. By integrating these experiences between sessions, the work becomes more tangible, empowering, and lasting.
